Overview

The Payroll Tax Specialist plays a vital role within the Payroll Department, focusing on accurate and timely payroll processing. This position is responsible for reviewing timekeeping records, calculating wages, managing deductions, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations and company policies. This role requires a solid understanding of payroll operations, tax reporting, and proficiency with payroll systems. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves as primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, resolving issues and providing accurate information.
  • Processes new hires, rehires, employee/manager changes in the payroll system.
  • Administer weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for approximately 4,000 employees.
  • Review, balance and approve quarterly and annual payroll tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex tax issues.
  • Configure and maintain state and local tax settings within the payroll system.
  • Provide documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Process payments for federal and multi-state withholdings.
  • Verify and maintain accurate setup of employee deductions.
  • Offer payroll support and guidance to managers.
  • Assists with the administration of:
    • Garnishments, liens and child support payments
    • Qualified Transportation Benefits
    • The Container Store 401(k) Plan
    • Leaves of Absence
    • Short Term and Long Term Disability
  • Manage filing/document imaging tasks.
  • Share expertise to support team development and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to assigned work schedule.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks assigned.
Experience and Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3-5 years payroll experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, taxes regulations, and wage & hour laws.
  • Experience with UKG/Ultipro system preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with Business Intelligence Report writer preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex payroll issues.
  • Must be located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of alertness and work safely at all times.
  • Committed to scheduled hours with flexibility to adjust based on business needs.
