Overview
The Chief of Staff & Project Manager (CoS/PM) serves as a force multiplier to the Chief Operating Officer of Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc., translating enterprise vision into structured execution across the organization. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for a director-level operator who thrives in ambiguity, leads cross-functionally without formal authority, and brings rigor, pace, and clarity to a fast-moving operating environment. Reporting directly to the COO, the CoS/PM owns the COO's time-and-action calendar, drives the operating cadence of the COO's organization, and ensures the right people, decisions, and deliverables are aligned to the company's most critical priorities. The role is part program manager, part strategic partner, and part air-traffic controller - the connective tissue between vision and execution. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

What We Stand For

Established in 1978, The Container Store has grown to be the leading specialty retailer of storage and organization products in the United States and the only national retailer solely devoted to the category. We provide creative, multifunctional, customizable storage and organization solutions that help our customers save time, save space and improve the quality of their lives. We foster a culture built around our Foundation Principles, which define how we approach our relationships with our employees, vendors, customers and communities and influence every aspect of our business.

Responsibilities
  • Translate the COO's strategic priorities into clear workstreams, milestones, owners, and deliverables.
  • Build and maintain the enterprise time-and-action calendar, ensuring every initiative has defined timelines, dependencies, and accountability.
  • Drive end-to-end program management for cross-functional initiatives spanning merchandising, supply chain, store operations, digital, marketing, and finance.
  • Anticipate roadblocks, surface risks early, and proactively mobilize the right stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Design and run the COO's operating rhythm: monthly operating reviews, quarterly planning, and offsites.
  • Set agendas, prepare pre-reads, capture decisions, and track action items to closure with relentless follow-through.
  • Ensure leadership meetings are decision-oriented, well-prepared, and time-efficient.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for status, decisions, and commitments across the COO's portfolio.
  • Partner with senior leaders across the company to align priorities, unblock teams, and accelerate execution.
  • Influence outcomes through clarity, credibility, and collaboration - not hierarchy.
  • Serve as a trusted intermediary, representing the COO's intent in meetings the COO cannot attend.
  • Build durable working relationships across functions, levels, and personalities.
  • Prepare the COO for board meetings, executive reviews, town halls, and external engagements with crisp, high-quality materials.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis, draft communications, and synthesize complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Manage special projects on behalf of the COO, from concept through execution.
  • Provide a thoughtful sounding board on organizational, operational, and strategic decisions.
